Hi, I'm not an experienced computer person, but I've used BP before and found it very helpful. I'm afraid of messing things up even more so please help if you can.

I was having tons of problems, seemingly related to MS automatic updates. One moment everything was fine, and the next day the printers didn't work. Stuff like that. System restore wasn't working either, when it had in the recent past. Now when I would try system restore, I always got the post-boot message that the restore was unsuccessful and I should try a different restore point (which never worked).

I decided to start pretty clean, and reinstall Vista, since I had a disk. I saved my previous files (I didn't do a completely clean reinstall) and all seemed well. Then I put a cd in the drive, and it didn't work. After using MS Fix-It, the conclusion is that "the device filter drivers are corrupt or missing (HL-DT-ST DVD + - GH30N ATA Device)". I went to device manager, and I can't roll back to a previous driver, and after checking it says I have the most recent driver.

I am using Windows 6.0, Windows Vista home Premium 64 bit. Please help!

There are a few different m$ auto fixes. here is one (don't know witch one you tried) this one deletes the upper and lower filters. Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
